Ancient Jaffa

Jaffa (or Yafo), named after Noah’s eldest son, Japheth, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. This is one of the main ports of ancient Israel, where ships with pilgrims came on their way to Jerusalem.

During its long history, Jaffa was repeatedly captured by foreign warriors and passed from hand to hand undergoing numerous metamorphoses. Each of those who conquered it considered it their duty to destroy it to the ground in order to rebuild it. Traces of these transformations, from the depths of centuries to our days, left an indelible imprint on the city giving it unique look and atmosphere attracting millions of tourists from all over the world.
